Brown cloth with dark brown titles and vignette to front cover. 5 tipped in colour plates. All edges gilt. Bumping and wear to spine and corners. Top of spine has splits to cloth at both edges, with some fraying. Inscription in ink to verso of front endpaper. Half-title page is creased and foxed. Inscription in ink to verso of title page. Some foxing and page margin creases. All plates present.

Pictorial paper boards show girl in red blazer with tennis racket, cloth spine. 4 colour plates, 1 colour plate by Florence Harrison. B/w and two tone illustrations. First story is 'The Socialist' by Mrs. J.D. Westwood. 208 pages. Spine bumped, worn and browned with a few marks. Corners and cover edges worn. Marks to covers. Small amount of crossed out writing to front endpaper. Grubby mark to top corner of half-title page. Rear joint and a couple of hinges cracked but binding is firm. Light foxing and a few marks to contents. All plates present.

Spine bumped and rubbed with small splits to top and bottom. Corners bumped and worn. Board edges rubbed. Covers grubby and marked. Front joint cracked and mended with tape. Frontis detached. Slight colouring to one plate. Pencil scribble to rear endpapers and some other pages. Red pen and pencil scribble to verso of one plate. A little foxing and some fingering to page margins.

Splits to spine edges, backstrip possibly glued into place, a little loss of cloth from top of spine. Cover a bit grubby, front cover scratched. Endpapers browned and foxed. Q1441 in pen to front endpaper and small smudge to top corner. Foxing, mainly to text block and prelims. A few marks to contents.

A little bumping and wear to spine and corners. Spine slightly darkened and gilt dulled. Covers slightly grubby with wear to onlay and title. Rear joint cracked. Tiny bookseller's sticker to front pastedown. Light browning to endpapers. Just an odd mark and fox spot to contents.
