Very good condition.
Blue cloth, dark blue title to spine and border lines to front cover. 197 numbered pages. Colour frontis, b/w text illustrations throughout. Spine and corners bumped and slightly rubbed. Spine slightly browned. Inscription in ink to front free-endpaper. Looks like a section from the original dustwrapper(?) has been cut out and stuck to front pastedown. Endpapers lightly browned and foxed. Top edge of textblock is dusty and also slightly stained (does not affect page margins).

Title on spine faded. Covers are heavily marked, possibly damp stained. Both joints badly cracked, showing webbing beneath. Endpapers browned and marked. Erased writing to flyleaf. Bottom 2" of frontis cut off. Small closed tears to frontis mended on verso with clear tape. Two pages at end of book detached. Some pages creased. A few foxspots. Edge of text block is grubby.

Good condition.
One of the classic works of fantasy and the author's solitary children's book. Only 2000 copies printed of which 600 were used for the American edition. Large format. Vellum spine with gilt titles and decoration. Grey paperboards. 48 magical colour plates. Both calligraphic text and plates are mounted on grey art paper making this a truly unusual item. Spine and corners bumped and worn, some chipping to top and tail of spine. Covers are grubby and marked, edges are rubbed. There is some surface paper damage to covers, particularly at edges. Binding re-stitched. Some damage to front endpaper. Small margin tears. Apart from some slight fingering all plates seem fine. A good copy of this scarce item.

All plates are present and in fine condition - a really lovely copy of this special publishers edition.
