Contents

  • There was such a commotion in Merely when young Timothy Postlethwaite found a giant on the sea-shore! Seven League Boots, Esquire, had retired to a quiet cave for forty winks after lunch one day, and woke up to find he had been asleep 800 years instead.
  • Boots was dreadfully upset, because everything was so changed he could not recognise the place at all. So, to cheer him up, the Merely folk helped him to build a bungalow, where he settled down quite happily with Jemima (who hatched out of the dragon's egg in his pocket) and Ping Pong, the baby elephant. A few nervous citizens were rather alarmed at first; but they soon realised what an attraction he was when crowds of tourists arrived, all clamouring to see him.
