Blue cloth boards with gilt vignette of Dodo to front and gilt vignette to rear. 18 plates including frontispiece (2 handcoloured, 2 tinted: 1 of the latter folding). Subscribers list to front. Top edge gilt. 141 pages including index plus 12 pages publisher adverts to rear. The standard work on the subject of the Dodo, setting out to separate the myth from reality.

Professionally rebacked with leather with new spine and corners. Raised bands and gilt titles to spine. Cloth boards browned. Initials to front pastedown. Joints cracked, binding tight. Diagonal crease to front endpaper and some staining to endpapers. A few grubby margin marks. Page edge browning. Modern tissue guards. Library stamp to each plate and title page. All plates present. Plate II opposite page 9 is starting to detach from top. One instance of pencil annotation to margin pg 34. Despite faults this remains a very nice copy of this scarce title.
