It also tells of Ward's own strange story: of a boy born to theatrical and quite spectacularly careless parents who sent him to boarding school at the age of three; of his beautiful mother, who fell in love with him; of a failed career as an actor; of his working life on a great newspaper; and of his five marriages and the women in between.
