Almost very good condition. Large format. Three-quarters leather binding with gilt title to spine and marbled paper boards. Marbled endpapers. Engraved title page plus 30 engraved plates. Engraving by J.C. Allen.
Edges rubbed, corners worn with some loss to leather at sides. Boards rubbed/scuffed. Front joint cracked, broken at bottom edge where leather has worn away from spine. Rear joint is sound. Some foxing present. Plate opposite page 149 is torn almost right across at the lower margin of the plate not affecting the plate itself. A few other plates may have small closed margin tears. Most plates have browning to margins of page. It is possible that there is a page or more missing at the end although the book appears to be complete in itself - the last printed page number is 216 and this ends partway through a sentence. Overall, a good working copy.
