- The story of Hampton Court from its first building by Cardinal Wolsey to the time of Charles I who was imprisoned there and later escaped, told through the eyes of Julian Massingham, a boy who comes to live at the Palace with his mother. Julian, in his dreams, goes back into history and as a royal page sees Henry VIII, the Princesses Mary and Elizabeth and the young Edward VI. As a young actor he takes part in the splendid entertainments of the first James and Charles.
