Dark green calf binding. Small format. 6 folding copper plates. B/w drawings in text. 359 pages and 12 pages of book list at rear. Front board, front endpaper and title page are detached (but present). Rear joint is split but holding by cords. Loss to top of spine. Boards are worn and scuffed, loss of surface leather to edges. A few age related marks to contents. Some hinges pulled. A working copy only.

Pages: 81-99 are a brochure for the London Anti-Vivisection Society. 8 coloured plates of operations performed by the author on dead animals - repetitions of what he had seen done on living animals. ix and 99 pages. Covers mottled, and browned to spine. Browning to text block and endpaper. Front joint pulled between front endpaper and half-title page. First plate almost detached. Contents clean.
