A Schiffer Military History Book. After a promising beginning as the Royal Naval Air Service in World War I, the Fleet Air Arm, also known as 'The Air Branch of the Royal Navy', became a military 'football' passed around betwen its parent service and the Royal Air Force under whose operational control it fell from 1918-1937.
