Nature's Savage Cats - A Pop-Up Exploration

Which wild cat sprints four times faster than an Olympic champion?
This wild cat can catch an entire flock of birds in one second – but what is its name?
Which can eat as much as 31kg of meat in one night?
The Romans prized a specific big cat and used them to pull chariots – but which one?
Which big cat has been used for centuries as a symbol of strength and power?

These are just a few questions that are answered in 'Nature's Savage Cats – A Pop-up Exploration', a book which looks at some of the most successful predators in the animal kingdom.

This book takes a brief look at the Tiger, the Caracal, the Leopard, the Cheetah, the Lion and the Puma. The double page spreads for each cat have superb pop-up features, some with moveable parts. Colour photographs are included on the pages as well as interesting facts about each cat, such as where they would be found in the world, approximate sizes, their favourite meals and the markings unique to them.

My favourite interesting fact from this book is in the Tiger section. It talks about the Sundarbans tiger reserve in India where about 500 tigers live – some of which are man eaters! So – how do the forest workers protect themselves? They wear masks on the back of their heads (left). The reason? Tigers normally attack from behind, but fooled by the face-mask they usually leave humans alone to get on with their work. Fascinating....

If you have a cuddly domestic cat you can explore the differences and the similarities to their wild cat relatives. Does your cat like to climb trees? See which of the wild cats would prefer to sleep in a tree!

If you like this book you may also like to know that there are others available in the same series including: 'Nature's Creatures of the Dark' and 'Nature's Deadly Creatures'. These too are explorations in pop-up with fun and interesting facts about the relevant animals.
