The Age of Oak, The Age of Walnut, The Age of Mahogany, and The Age of Satinwood. Very large, heavy volumes. Red cloth boards, gilt titles with publisher vignette to front. Top edges gilt. 15 colour plates, after Shirley Slocombe, per volume with titled tissue-guard. Numerous b/w illustrations by the author. First published 1904; 1905; 1906; and 1908 respectively. Uneven fading to cloth and spines are very faded with a few marks. Slight fraying to board corners. Some scattered foxing present, some foxing to plates - some badly foxed to margins, others just a little, others clean. All plates and tissue-guards present. Some plates detached mostly in The Age of Oak, some of these are worn at edges and creased but not affecting the subject of the plate. All volumes are first editions 1904-1908. A few margin marks. A very nice set for someone with an interest in furniture making.

The first book of Rupert's Library. Grey boards with pictorial onlay to front showing Rupert with a Golly and the Magic Toy-Man in the distance. Contains four stories: Rupert and the Magic Toy-Man, Rupert and the Princess, Rupert At School and Rupert and the Old Miser. 3 colour plates plus two-tone illustrations throughout. Rebacked with blue cloth. A few minor scuff marks to front cover, small mark to rear cover. Corners a little worn. Front joint repaired as part of rebacking. Original pictorial endpapers retained. On verso of frontis plate there is an inscription in ink dated 1924 and offsetting from the picture. The outer margin of the frontis is grubby. Prelims and endpapers are foxed. Some foxing to contents but the pages are generally clean. Overall a bright copy of this scarce early Rupert book.

A few page margins have small bumps. Push out pieces are all still present and lovely and bright.

Front joint cracked, rear joint starting to crack. Light corner crease to both endpapers, title page and signature page. Some foxing and browning to contents. Foxing to first plate and just a couple of fox spots to second plate.

Bottom corner of some pages lightly creased. Dustwrapper is edge worn with some tears (including to front fold and spine) and creasing. Some of the tears have been mended on verso with clear tape. Some loss to top and bottom of spine. Chipping to corners. Light foxing to verso.

Creasing to front endpaper and prelims including mount and tissue guard for frontis but plate itself is not affected. Browning to endpapers. Some light page browning. Light foxing mostly to prelims and page edges and some fingering. One page and last tissue guard creased. Plates all present and in very good condition.
