Almost very good condition in a good dustwrapper.
Large format. Blue cloth spine. Buff boards with blue title and white vignette of Gyp (a young white Aberdeen terrier) to front cover. 15 colour illustrations and b/w text illustrations throughout. Spine and corners bumped and worn, cover edges rubbed. Some browning/foxing to endpapers. Two leaves have small patches of damage to them. A couple of hinges are cracked. Some fingering to contents but generally clean. Dustwrapper is a bit grubby, is edge chipped and rubbed and has a large closed tear to rear panel which has been repaired.

Re-issue. 119 artistic colored plates (lithographs) representing the different species and varieties drawn and colored from nature including a copious text giving a popular account of their habits and characteristics, based on observations made in the field by the most eminent writers on ornithology prefaced by a systematic table and index to page, plate and figure. Very large format. Full red morocco binding with gilt title to front and spine. All edges gilt. 182 pages plus index. Spine faded, edges rubbed, a few scuff marks to front & rear board. Corners worn. Front joint between title page and frontis pulled. Some scattered foxing. A few closed margin tears. Some grubby margin marks (fingering). All plates present and beautifully bright.

Volume 1 (all published). Large oblong format. Three quarters burgundy leather with cloth sides. 42 handcoloured plates including title page by Alken, many in his sporting/equine style. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Includes Symptoms of a Preface page. Boards worn, faded and marked. Joints cracked but binding still tight. Inscription in ink to verso of first blank page. 41 of 42 hand coloured plates present. Frontis has been expertly repaired/relined. Probably a rebound copy as the tissue guards have watermark dating 1865. Plates wonderfully bright but grubby marks to margins and slightly affecting plates. Overall a nice copy of a weird and wonderful item!

Large format. Gilt and black titles and decorations. 20 tipped-in paper guarded chromolithograph plates. Some wear to cloth mainly to corners, with a little fraying. Front and rear joints cracked. All plates present but with some foxing. 1 plates has paper-guard missing. Another plate appears to have been re-inserted, but in the wrong place. The paper guards have a fair amount of damage with some pieces missing.

Remains of very small white sticker to front endpaper. Foxing and some fingering to contents but generally clean. Dustwrapper is edge worn with loss, 2" loss to base of spine, tape repair to top of spine on verso and a few tiny holes (caused by scratches) to front panel. Rear panel is a bit grubby. A nice copy in a decent enough dustwrapper.
