  • Stories are a natural part of the everyday lives of children. The authors of this book have a wide experience of reading and talking to children up to about 12 years of age and they trace the continuation of story from playground gossip to reading literature. The influences of television, folktales and contemporary story are all considered, there are accounts of actual events with classroom and the reactions of children to particular stories. There are sections on practical matters such as what to look for in choosing books for children, and valuable appendices and book lists.
