This book is more concerned with the strains and stresses in Carolingian society and the conflicts that arose from then than with a systematic enumeration of all the known details. Orange cloth boards, gilt title to spine. ISBN: 0631053409. Inscription in ink to front endpaper. Dustwrapper is grubby, has a closed tear to top front edge and remains of price label to rear flap.

Browning to spine and some cover edges, damp stian to base of spine and lower edge of rear cover. Some light browning and foxing to contents but otherwise pages are clean. Line of surface paper damage to frontis, looks like it has been stuck to title page. Book has a smell of smoke.

Browning to spine and edges of front cover. Some marks to covers. Small bookseller's label to front pastedown. Pencil inscription to front endpaper. A couple of hinges cracked but binding is firm. Light foxing and an odd mark to contents.

Spine and corners bumped and worn. Browning to edge of spine. Covers a bit grubby. Front joint badly cracked showing webbing. Rear joint and a couple of hinges cracked. Name in ink to creased front endpaper. Endpapers are marked with some light browning. A few marks to contents. Poor condition front panel and spine of dustwrapper present but have been stuck to stiff card.
The artist bought herself a new pen which drew beautiful shapes... it did more than this... it drew James! Black boards with white titles. Lovely text and b/w illustrations throughout. Minimal bumping and rubbing to spine and corners. Contents clean. Dustwrapper is edge worn and slightly chipped with minimal loss, small mark to front edge.
