Contents

  • Jack Lambert arrives at the Chalet School and is shown the ropes by Len Maynard, her dormitory prefect. Always full of questions, Jack considers that Len is the best person to answer them, while Len decides that she must keep an eye on this high-spirited new member of Lower IIIa. It is not long before Jack with her passion for practical jokes, gets into all sorts of scrapes, and she quickly earns for herself a reputation for mischief. When one 'joke' goes seriously wrong, Jack is in real trouble, but Len as usual comes to the rescue.
  • This is not the only crisis in which Len displays the qualities of leadership shown by her mother as Joey Bettany, in the early days of the Chalet School. A break-down in the school heating system shows her resourcefulness; she is sympathetic and helpful when her triplet sister Margot brings her problems; and in many ways Len Maynard emerges as a leader in the true tradition of the Chalet School
