- A chain of family events, both sad and happy, force Althea Glenyon to go to boarding school and she, luckily, chooses the Chalet School. She encounters jealousy on the part of one of her classmates, but there are many compensations for her in the friendship of Len and her family and the girls of Upper IVB. Exciting adventures afloat and ashore break into school routine, involving Althea in some embarrassing situations. At the end of her first term at the Chalet School, however, Althea has proved herself and looks like settling in to become a real Chaletian.
