Almost very good condition. Cream pictorial cloth. The first book in the "Adventure" series. 326 pages. B/w illustrations.

Heavy foxing and fading to spine, with also has some fraying to cloth at top corners. Grubby marks to covers. Bumping to corners; some browning. Inscriptions in ink to front endpaper. Name in ink to rear pastedown. Foxing to endpapers and outer page edges. Contents are still generally very good.

  • Four children in an old half-ruined house set on a wild cliff by the sea, a strange island, called the Isle of Gloom, in the distance - and a ship to sail out to the island to see what is going on there. Secret passages, old forgotten copper-mines on the island, men hidden there doing strange things. a path under the sea-bed itself - there are no end to the adventures that the four children have, Then there is Kiki, the parrot, whose ridiculous chatter delights the children and who shares in their amazing adventures.
