  • The third in the Nettleford series. Sally and Paul Richardson, whose father keeps the bookshop, Elizabeth Langton from the vicarage and the red-headed and adventurous Jimmy (son of Mr. Brand the ironmonger) form themselves into a society called "The Owlers".
  • There are no far fetched adventures but there are plenty of thrills, including the finding of a "secret kingdom" with a lake and an island, a battle and the rout of egg stealers,a camp in a horse-caravan and a tremendously exciting point-to-point.
