The book deals with the experiences of the five fighting battalions: the first phase concerns the first and second battalions in the ten months up to Dunkirk; the second, the part played by the second and third battalions in North Africa and Italy; the third embraces the fighting in Europe from June 1944 in which the 1st, 4th and 5th battalions took part. There is also an introductory retrospect concerning the regiment in the first world war. Blue cloth, gilt and silver decorations. xvii + 593 pages. B/w maps.
