by Nonny Hogrogian

Illustrated by Nonny Hogrogian

Published by Hamish Hamilton Childrens Books. 1st UK. 1974

Very good condition in a almost very good dustwrapper. An Armenian folktale originating in the family of Hogrogian's husband and follows young Melkon, who cleverly retaliates against three bandits after they steal the plump rooster his mother had prepared for his name day feast. Through a series of resourceful tricks and persistent harassment—including leaving taunting notes signed "Rooster Brother"—the boy outwits the thieves and reclaims his special meal in a humorous tale of wit triumphing over theft. Oblong format. Cream and brown mottled cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Colour pictorial endpapers depicting poppies. Colour illustrations. Not paginated.

Light rubbing to board edges. Contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is edge-worn with a few closed tears and minor loss, spine is rubbed and sunned/faded. Dustwrapper has 'Lantern Home Education Reading Library' stamped in blue in to front flap.
