Very good condition in a almost very good dustwrapper. Through a series of resourceful tricks and persistent harassment—including leaving taunting notes signed "Rooster Brother"—the boy outwits the thieves and reclaims his special meal in a humorous tale of wit triumphing over theft. Oblong format. Cream and brown mottled cloth boards with gilt title to spine. Colour pictorial endpapers depicting poppies. Colour illustrations. Not paginated.
Light rubbing to board edges. Contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is edge-worn with a few closed tears and minor loss, spine is rubbed and sunned/faded. Dustwrapper has 'Lantern Home Education Reading Library' stamped in blue in to front flap.
