Written by Andre Lehr; Wim Truyen; Gilbert Huybens.
Stock no. 1831134
Published by Lannoo Publishers. 1st thus 1991. Slightly better than very good condition in a very good dustwrapper.

Bells, of both Eastern and Western origin, reached a first peak in Europe during the Middle Ages, as swinging-bells. These were also used for peals: a rhythmical play of soundds achieved with the help of clappers - the origin of what is now the manually played carillon. During the second half of the 14th century tower-clocks were installed everywhere and these not only gave the hour-strikes but also played a melody on a few small bells, later to become chimes. Bells around the world. Large format. Blue cloth boards, gilt title to spine and vignette to front. Colour & b/w photos throughout. 318 pages. ISBN: 9020919172. A very nice copy. Pictorial dustwrapper is scuffed.
