The Douce Apocalypse, an illuminated luxury manuscript, was made for prince Edward, later Edward I, and his wife Eleanor of Castile in 1270. The text and images had a contemporary significance in the 13th century are were interpreted in the context of prophecies concerning the coming of the Antichrist. This volume conveys both the beauty of the original illuminated manuscript and the enduring fascination of its contents. Black cloth boards, gilt title to spine. Colour illustrations.
