Small format. Dark green cloth boards, gilt titles. Portrait of the man to frontis. 128 pages. Boards darkened, marked and stained. Corners lightly worn. Presentation plate to front pastedown. Contents a little grubby. Front hinge pulled, rear hinge pulled wide, exposing webbing and staples but binding is tight. Overall, a good working copy.

His main life work was the chairmanship of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway, but he had a profound influence on many other railways in Britain, Canada and India. Top & tail of spine lightly shelf-worn. Top edge of text block is grubby. Previous owner's bookplate to front endpaper. Else contents clean.
