8th Edition. Letters written by the late Right Honourable Philip Dormer Stanhope, Earl of Chesterfield to his son Philip Stanhope. Four volumes in two. Three-quarter black morocco binding, marbled boards, edges and endpapers. Leather worn and chipped. Name in ink to first blank page, pencil shorthand to frontis and title page of vol 1 & 2. Faded writing to title page and ink smudge to first chapter of vol 3 & 4. Else content clean and tight for a book of its age.

Full brown calf binding with gilt decorations and title to spine. All edges red. Description historique et geographique des treize cantons Suisses et de leurs allies nouvelle edition. Two volumes in one. 4 folding b/w maps. 3 single page b/w maps. 30 b/w plates and one folding b/w plate. Text in French. Covers slightly rubbed at edges, spine slightly sunned. New marbled endpapers. Most pages have light brown stain on lower half of page (looks like ancient dampstain). Last sentence on page 272 has been adversely affected with a couple of words illegible. Otherwise the text is bright and readable. One map is browned at corner. Majority of plates not marked. A handsome copy.

One page bound out of order (page 85 follows page 92).

Spine badly worn with loss at top and further loss downwards. Boards rubbed. Joints worn. Name in ink to front endpaper. Some foxing and age related marks to contents.
