All edges red. Covers are grubby and rubbed. Spine rebacked with original backstrip laid down. Possibly has new endpapers (professionally done if so). Name plate to front pastedown. Grubby fingermarks to contents but still a decent copy for a book over 100 years old!

Decorated pale orange endpapers (publisher's motif?). Spine and corners bumped. Some small dents to cover edges and some scuffing and scratches to cloth. Covers a bit grubby. Inscriptions in ink to front free-endpaper (one crossed out). Front free-endpaper is creased. Front joint is cracked. Pages 23-26 of John Gilpin have been torn and now repaired with tape. A couple of the b/w illustrations have been coloured in with water-colour paint. There is some foxing throughout. A few small margin tears. Not as bad as it sounds, still a reasonable copy for a book that is over 100 years old!
