THE SPRINGTIDE OF LIFE
Illustrated by Arthur Rackham
Published by William Heinemann. 1st. 1918
Very good condition in a almost very good dustwrapper. As the close of his life approached, Swinburne often expressed his desire to extract from his various volumes those poems addressed to children. He died without doing so. Edmund Gosse has brought together this collection of Swinburne's poems which are concerned with infancy. Rackham's delicate and romantic illustrations are a perfect complement to the text. 8 colour plates plus b/w text decorations. Dark green cloth with gilt titles and vignette to front cover. Green/white decorated endpapers. 133pp. cr 4to.
Light bumping and wear to spine and corners. Covers beautifully bright and clean. Foxing to endpapers. A few small margin marks. All plates present. Later dustwrapper (1922) has 2.5 inch closed tear to top of front panel, repaired with sticky tape to verso. Rest of wrapper has some browning; edge-creasing and small chips and nicks to corners.
