She tells of their life in an old cottage, of finding logs for the fire, fighting the clay soil and insects and weather in the garden, raising chickens, watching the birds and local wildlife, participating in the community life in the village, cooking in each season, going for walks with her dog through the local countryside, and of the magic apple tree, a tree growing in their back garden which gives them new views and comforts throughout each season. Published for Boots The Chemist. Large format. Red cloth covers, gilt titles. 16 colour tipped-in plates. Many b/w illustrations. 319 pages. 10 x 7.5". Spine and corners bumped. Faded patch to base of spine (where there is a piece of the dustwrapper missing). A few tiny dents to cover edges. Name and date in ink to front free-endpaper. Foxing, especially to prelims and textblock. Some of the b/w text illustrations has been neatly coloured. Dustwrapper has a piece missing to base of spine and a smaller piece missing above. Rear panel and spine of wrapper are slightly faded.

A few small dents to cover edges. Spine is foxed and has a small worn patch to rear edge with slight loss of cloth. Front joint is cracked. There is some light foxing to the contents. Some of the tissue-guards are creased but all plates are present and in fine condition.

Text block is browned/dusty. Hinge between page 198 and 199 is pulled but binding is tight. A few scattered foxspots present. Pictorial dustwrapper is edge-worn and torn with slight loss, spine is sunned/faded, a little browned and grubby.
