Poems that are 'the very essence of the British spirit' selected and introduced by Nichols. Bumping to spine and corners. Foxing/grubby marks to endpapers, outer page edges and some page margins. Includes a card from Brock. Wrapper is price-cut with edge-creasing; some chips and nicks; some repaired to verso with sticky tape. Wrapper also has some grubby and brown marks.

Large format. Red cloth with gilt title to spine, blind title and decoration to front cover. 12 tipped-in colour plates with captioned tissue-guards. Bumping and wear to spine and corners. A little uneven fading to covers and edges. Small name in ink to front endpaper. Light corner crease to colour plate (p.16). A few marks to outer page edges. Wrapper is edge-creased with tears and chips; faded to spine; has been repaired; some loss.
Beautiful Poems series. Grey boards, dark grey title and vignette to front cover. Blue title to spine. B/w pictorial endpapers. Colour plates and b/w illustrations. Spine and cover edges are browned. Small amount of loss to top and tail of spine; some splits. Corners are bumped, with wear. Marks and browning to covers. Foxing to endpapers, outer page edges and pages throughout book.

Covers unevenly faded. Small hole to front edge of spine at base, spine is also a little faded. Removal of a small label to front free-endpaper. Light corner creases to plates.

Inscription in pencil to front endpaper. One mount partly detached. Minor crease to one plate. A few scattered foxposts. Small hole to front edge of spine (pin hole). Pictorial dustwrapper is a little grubby and is edge-worn with a few tears and some loss.

Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. 2" thick. Large format, 10.5 x 8.25". Spine and corners bumped and worn. Covers slightly grubby and rear cover lightly scuffed. Top 3" of front edge of spine has been split and repaired. Front joint cracked. Tiny booksellers sticker to front pastedown. Foxspots to contents. Plates all present and in fine condition.

Black cloth, gilt titles and horsehead vignette to front. 4 tipped-in colour plates. A horse-racing poem. Spine and corners slightly bumped and rubbed. Browning to endpapers, light foxing to contents. Dustwrapper is edge worn with some slight chipping with loss and a grubby mark with some slight surface paper damage to author's name on front panel.

Grubby marks to cover edges. Inscriptions in ink to front endpaper. Foxing to outer page edges and some page margins. Plates are fine, with just a few foxspots to versos.
