- St. Githa's, which occupied the fine old house known as The Turrets, was mainly a day school, but included about twenty boarders amongst its pupils. The Transition, with which the story is chiefly concerned, consisted of girls spirited enough to make up their minds to be independent, as regards 'stunts', of the seniors. With this in view they formed The Zodiac Society, and faced the future with high hopes.
