Beige cloth, black titles and black/green vignettes to spine and front. 6 b/w plates. 287 pages. 7.5 x 5". A little bumping and wear to spine and corners. Covers slightly rubbed with a few small marks. Name in ink twice to front endpapers plus small bookseller's label. Front joint and quite a few hinges cracked. Page 15/16 partially detached. Contents generally clean. Endpapers browned. Some light foxing. All plates present, one partially detached.

Covers and contents beautifully bright and clean. Wrapper is edge chipped with loss, patch of loss to top of spine and corners of panels, small patch of loss to centre of rear panel. 2" closed tear to top of spine and 3" closed horizontal tear to centre of rear panel. Wrapper not as bad as it sounds!

- Set in a school in Naples, run by English ladies exclusively for British and American girls. Irene makes the most of her opportunities, both in school and on many expeditions. She soon forms friendships and is elected a member of a secret 'sorority' which triumphs radiantly over a rival clique.
