Contents

  • When Bunter heard that Lord Mauleverer was granted permission to miss lessons because his uncle had been knocked down, he thought it such a cracking idea that he rubbed his eyes with an onion to produce tears and asked Quelch for leave as his mother was ill. Unfortunately he had failed to sufficiently hide the onion and so was sent to Quelch;s study to await a caning. Whilst waiting Bunter hid the manuscript of Quelch's History of Greyfriars in the chimney. Then by odd coincidence Bunter's father did ring to say his mother was ill and Bunter bolted home.
  • When the manuscript was found to be missing Vernon-Smith was suspected and the whole class kept in for Extra School until it reappeared. On Bunter's return suspicion grew that he was the culprit.
