Fair condition.
The very first Boy's Own Annual. Large format. Blue pictorial cloth, gilt title block to spine, decorative 'B', 'O', 'A' in gilt to front board, remaining title letters are blue. 8 colour and b/w plates, Chess Board for separate use. B/w illustrations to text. iv and 588 pages. Board edges worn with some fraying of cloth. Top & tail of spine very worn with slight loss. Spine is browned. Boards a little scuffed. Text block browned. Endpapers grubby and marked. Transfers and hand-coloured clippings pasted in to prelims and last few pages. Contemporary inscription in ink to verso of front endpaper. Large plate 'The Death of Nelson' pasted to verso of frontispiece. Frontispiece is listed as 'Moths' but is of British Butterflies. Hinges are pulled but binding is tight. Grubby marks and foxspots to contents. Chess Board is missing. All other plates present. Overall a Good working copy of a scarce annual.

Slight discolouration to top and tail of spine and to rear cover. Foxing to contents, some slight damp staining to top edges of pastedowns. Dustwrapper is edge worn and creased with some pieces of loss. Rear panel is a bit grubby and has a pink stain.
