THE ALLIES' FAIRY BOOK
Illustrated by Arthur Rackham
Published by William Heinemann. 1st. 1916
Almost very good condition. A contribution to the mood of patriotism and co-operation between the Allies during WWI, Rackham departs from his usual style in that this book is full of images which thrill and inspire but which do not terrify. Reports coming back from the Front were enough to suggest that this time the Allies could be spared violent images with their family reading at home! Blue cloth, gilt vignette. Introduction by Edmond Gosse. 13 tales. 12 colour plates plus b/w illustrations. 122 pages. 8 x 6".
Spine and corners bumped and slightly rubbed. Gilt to spine dulled. Endpapers browned. Inscription in ink to half title-page. Joint between endpaper and half title is partially cracked. Some foxing and grubby fingermarks to page margins throughout.
