Small format. Red pictorial cloth. 7 b/w plates. Spine and a couple of cover edges are faded. Corners are bumped. Inscription to front endpaper. Foxing and some page browning.

B/w text illustrations. 228 pages plus booklist to rear. 7 x 5.5". Spine and corners bumped and slightly rubbed. Name in ink to front endpaper. Light dampstaining to lower edges of endpapers. Joints very slightly cracked. Some light foxing. A nice copy.

Thomas Hughes
Thomas Hughes (20 October 1822 – 22 March 1896) was an English lawyer, judge, politician and author. He is most famous for his novel Tom Brown's School Days (1857), a semi-autobiographical work set at Rugby School, which Hughes had attended. It had a lesser-known sequel, Tom Brown at Oxford (1861).
