A book about those gates of fear and the men who wait, pale and with pounding hearts, to see what is going to come out of the dark tunnel. Spine bumped. Inscription in ink to margin of acknowledgements page. Contents clean. Price-cut wrapper is slightly edge rubbed and slightly grubby.

Pink cloth boards with gilt title to front and embossed decoration to front and rear. Plain yellow endpapers. A few b/w plates. Lengthy subscribers list (31 pages). Spine browned, boards very grubby, corners bent. Name in ink to front endpaper. Joints just starting to split. Page browning, some foxing, one page has vertical edge crease. Small damp stain to prelims at lower gutter edges. A scarce item.
