By the editor of "The Children's Friend". Large format. Cloth spine, pictorial front cover shows two girls, one holding two apples behind her back. Colour plates, two-tone illustrations throughout. First story is "The Nursery Fire" told in verse. Spine and corners bumped, covers edge worn. Rear cover is slightly grubby, front cover a little scuffed. Endpapers lightly browned. Foxing to contents and some light fingering.

Cloth spine, pictorial front cover shows 3 boys pushing/pulling a girl on a sleigh. First story is "The Race". Colour plates plus b/w text illustrations. 112 pages. Spine slightly bumped and stained. Covers slightly edge worn and scuffed. Front joint is cracked at lower half causing free-endpaper and frontis to be part detached. Front joint between frontis and title-page is cracked showing webbing, lower half is broken. Hinges cracked and pulled causing contents to be loose. A decent copy overall.

Small, blind bookseller's stamp to front endpaper. Endpapers browned. Tissue guard for frontis is detached and browned. Some grubby marks to page margins. Advertising leaflet inserted into book.

B/w illustrations throughout. Spine and corners bumped and slightly worn. Front free-endpaper removed(?). A piece of white paper has been stuck to the front free-endpaper (covering previous inscription perhaps?). Some grubby fingermarks to page margins.

Two plates are missing - 1 colour and 1 b/w. Foxing and grubby marks throughout including several pencil marks. A reading copy.
