PETER PAN IN KENSINGTON GARDENS
by J.M. Barrie
Illustrated by Arthur Rackham
Published by Hodder & Stoughton. 1st thus. 1910
Very good condition. A beautiful leather bound edition of Rackham's Peter Pan. Limp green suede binding with gilt title to spine and vignette to front cover and embossed border to front. Green endpapers are maps of Kensington Gardens. 24 colour plates with captioned tissue-guards. 125 numbered pages, top edge gilt.
Very scarce with this binding which is in excellent condition due to being contained in original publishers box. Box has publishers vignette and book title in green stamped to padded top. Heavy foxing throughout but mainly to endpapers, prelims and textblock. Inscription in ink to half-title and a small pencil erasure(?) patch to top corner of same page. Box has done its job in protecting the book, is slightly edge worn with splits at lower edges and some scratches and is lightly browned. This copy would make a wonderful gift.
