THE STORY WITHOUT AN END
by Sarah Austin
Illustrated by E.V. Boyle
Published by Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington. 1879
Poor condition. Red cloth, gilt titles. Floral decorated endpapers. All edges gilt. 15 exquisite chromolithograph plates with paper guards plus other b/w illustrations.
Covers are soiled and very worn, particularly to spine and corners. Front joint cracked at lower half with front free-endpaper part detached. One plate is missing (so 14 plates in this copy), there are 2 that are the same and one that has been bound in upside-down. The titles on the plates do not correspond to the titles on the list of coloured illustrations. Contents are well fingered with foxing, the tissue guards for the plates are torn or missing or stuck to the plate opposite! This is a reading copy only of a very scarce book.
