For Young People edited by Mrs. Gatty. Maroon three quarter leather binding with marbled boards and text block. Raised bands to spine with gilt titles, lines and decoration. Peach endpapers. B/w illustrations. 760 pages. Wear to spine edges and other leather areas. Spine faded. Corners and cover edges bumped and worn. Marbling scuffed. Both joints cracked but still firm. Marks to pastedowns corresponding with leather. Name to front endpaper, erased pencil writing to title page. Frontis MISSING. A couple of pages have margin tears, some have been repaired with clear tape. Contents generally clean.

Green cloth with bevelled edges, embossed titles and decorations to front and rear covers, gilt title labels and decoration to spine. 380 pages. B/w illustrations. Spine and corners bumped and worn. Covers lightly scuffed. Foxing and light musty smell to contents. Rear joint is cracked.
Second Series. 2 vols in 1. Pages: 352, xiv, 418. Contemporary three-quarter leather binding with marbled boards. 11 coloured plates, from drawings by F. W. Keyl and R. Huttula. Numerous b/w text illustrations (woodcuts). Book: book plate to front endpaper. Contents very good. Corners very worn. Top of spine chipped with loss. It appears that the prelims to volume II are missing as there is no title page for this section of the book although the contents list is present. It is also possible that the contents list for volume I is missing although it is not immediately obvious.
