Old Tales From The North. Blue cloth, gilt title to spine. 24 superb tipped-in colour plates and other b/w illustrations. A collection of stories which originally appeared in Sir G.W. Dasent's "Popular Tales from the Norse". Light bumping and wear to corners and cover edges. Names in ink to prelim pages. Foxing throughout. All plates present. Wrapper is browned to spine with some scuffing; creasing; a few marks; light chips along a couple of edges.
Old Fairy Tales retold by Quiller-Couche. The first of Nielsen's greatest works. 24 magnificent colour plates reflecting both the Japanese influences and the Aubrey Beardsley tradition. The plates are tissue-guarded and tipped-in decorated backgrounds. Grey pictorial cloth, gilt title and floral decoration to spine. Grey and cream pictorial endpapers. Decorative borders to each page. 163 numbered pages. Large format. Spine and corners bumped and just a little rubbed. There are a few light marks to covers. Some heavy foxing, mainly to endpapers and page margins/edges. Dark marks to edge of text block. Light musty smell to contents. All plates present and in fine condition.
Modern binding with 3/4 marbled and red leather spine and corners. B/w photographs. Text in Danish. Front panel of original wrapper, which is illustrations by Nielsen has been bound in as part of the prelims. Edges worn, with a little fading to leather. An unusual item!
