Board edges worn, boards grubby. Bookplate to front pastedown. All plates present. Binding worn but tight. A few grubby marks throughout.
Red leather boards with gilt title to spine, raised bands, and vignettes to spine and corners of boards. Marbled endpapers. B/w wood engravings, 13 hand coloured steel engravings. Top edge gilt. Spine lightly rubbed at edges and raised bands. Gilt is bright. A few minor marks to boards. Bookplate to front pastedown. Front joint pulled. Foxing present mainly to margins and endpapers. All plates present.

Heavy wear with some chips and a little loss to spine and corners. Scuffing and grubby marks to covers. Front joint is almost entirely broken. Inscription in ink to prelims. Foxing throughout.

Spine browned but gilt title still bright. Top & tail of spine a little frayed. Corners bumped. Joints cracked, some hinges pulled. Contemporary inscription in ink to top of title page. Scattered foxing throughout else a clean copy.
