Written by the Deputy Governor of Millbank Prison at the time. Blue/green cloth boards, gilt title to spine. B/w chapter headers. 468 pages plus 40 pages of publisher adverts to rear. Top of spine frayed with loss, base of spine lightly worn. Cloth to rear board bubbled (air pockets between board and cloth). Joints cracked. Text block browned. One or two grubby marks internally. WH Smith Esq Library stamp embossed to prelims. Contemporary inscription in ink to verso of half-title page. A few foxspots present.

Eighth edition, revised and enlarged. Blue cloth, gilt title to spine, blind title to front. xxi and 1244 pages including index. Part I: Workshop Practice; Part II: Theory and Examples. Numerous b/w diagrams and folding plates. Spine worn and rubbed at edges, boards rubbed. Joints split and free front endpaper (with presentation plate) detached as a result. Crossed out name in ink and red rubber stamped name to half-title page. Red rubber stamped name also to top of first chapter. Edges of some of the folding plates are worn (all plates present). Text block is browned and also page edges. A few pulled hinges but contents generally sound.

Small closed tear in cloth to lower edge of rear cover. Small name stamp on half-title page. One gathering pulled but still holding. Foxing to prelims else contents clean.

The adventure of the author in 1933 when he sailed from Tahiti to Pitcairn. Some uneven fading and a little mottling to covers. Vertical creasing to some pages of prelims. Page browning with a little foxing. Wrapper is a bit grubby with some creasing and small nicks.
