Very good condition in a almost very good dustwrapper.
The making of the United States Marine. A vivid chronicle of ten weeks of Boot Camp as seen by a young professional photographer who once shared it. With pen and camera he followed a 75-man platoon through every aspect of basic training, a world of intense mental and physical suffering dominated by a man who is teacher-priest-guard-father-mother hen, and for the recruits, sadistic jailer - the Drill Instructor. Black cloth boards, silver title to spine. B/w photos. xvi and 139 numbered pages. Boards a little marked, mainly to lower edges and spine. Text block lightly browned. Front joint pulled between front free-endpaper and half-title page. Contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is browned, grubby and scuffed, lightly worn at edges with a few minor chips.

B/w plates. xv and 585 pages. All edges gilt. Board edges rubbed, rear board a little scuffed. Front joint cracked. Belongs to box completed with contemporary signature. Some pencil annotation. Not a bad copy!

The part 8 Corps played in the invasion of Normandy. Light blue/grey cloth boards, red titles. 3 colour survey maps in pocket at rear of book. Cloth boards browned at edges and spine, base of spine worn. Small knock to vertical edge of boards. Name in ink to front pastedown. What looks like a browned damps stain running vertically at edges (margins) of prelims. A few margin marks to contents but generally clean. All colour maps present and in good condition.

Leather spine rubbed and scuffed, boards scuffed and worn at lower edges. New endpapers. Some pages not bound in (but present). Some title pages have loss/tape marks. Tape repair to width of page 139 now yellowed with age. A few margin marks and tears.
