Special Edition. Red cloth boards, decorative front board and spine. Gilt titles. Bevelled edges. Embossed pattern to rear board. Four tissue-guarded steel engraved plates to front. Many b/w illustrations throughout. viii and 320 pages. Spine faded and worn at top & tail. Rear board a little marked. Text block browned & foxed. Bookplate to front endpaper. Joints starting to crack but binding is tight. Foxing present, mainly to tissue guards, a few spots to contents. Hinge between page 152 and 153 pulled wide to lower half but tight.

Contents clean. Pictorial dustwrapper is a little grubby and lightly edge-creased, tiny tear (no loss to top edge of rear panel, previous bookseller's label to rear panel.
