Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam the Astronomer Poet of Persia, Translated into English Verse by Edward Fitzgerald with an introduction by Byatt, full page colour illustrations throughout by Puttapipat, Top edge gilt. Blue Nigerian Goatskin spine with gilt title, purple vendome cloth sides. Gilt endpapers. Originally published in 1859. 69 pages. A fine copy contained in publisher's slipcase which is a little grubby and scuffed to one side. Slight binding imperfection where the boards are not sitting central - one board is sticking out further than the other.

The perfect showcase for Dulac's genius in depicting eastern fantasy with 20 magnificent tipped-in colour plates. Cream buckram stamped in rich gilt. Front cover has peacock design above and elephants below a central wreath. Spine has gilt titles and vignette of a flower urn. Peacock feather design on endpapers. Brown decorative border to each page. 11.25 x 8.75". Unpaginated. Spine is very browned, with a couple of chips/nicks to top and tail. Bumping to corners. A few knocks to cover edges. Marks to covers. Inscription in ink to half-title page. Foxing to various degrees throughout the book. Plates are still very good!
