Brown blind decorated cloth with gilt titles to spines. An American's impressions of Great Britain in Victorian times. Volume 1 is probably nearer very good - Bumping and a bit of chipping to corners, some browning and foxing; binding is nice and tight. Volume 2 - is chipped with splits to edges; tear in cloth on rear, but top cloth still present; damp stained; half of title page is MISSING - some heavy foxing and damp marking throughout. Please note, this appears to be a MIXED set with slightly different cloths - possibly bought at different times.

American Edition. New Naturalist Monograph no. 16. 27 b/w plates. 24 diagrams. A study of the salmon's life stages. Detailed sections on spawning and homing, and a most interesting conclusion by the eminent author that salmon do not feed in fresh water. This raises an interesting question for those who indulge in fly-fishing! This book beautifully describes the strange and mysterious life history of the salmon. Some spotting to covers. Pale foxing to endpapers and outer page edges. Previous owners bookplate stuck to front pastedown. Wrapper is unevenly browned.

Marks to rear cover. Inscription in ink and old price in biro to front endpaper, a few small crayon marks to pastedown. Textblock is grubby and there is some fingering to page margins. Some foxing also.

Covers are grubby with a couple of very small areas of damage. Spine and corners bumped and worn. Front joint is cracked between frontis and title page. Endpapers grubby with patch of tape residue to front endpaper. Small area of surface paper damage near top edge of title page. A few light marks and fingermarks to contents but generally clean.
