Author's first book. An adventure story of two children, who embark on a hunt for ancient treasure from their new home in Cumberland. Cream cloth. B/w text illustrations. 208 pages. Spine and corners bumped. Mark to top of spine and covers (small) and small mark to top edge of front cover. Endpapers lightly browned. Heavy foxing to textblock and some pages. Dustwrapper is just a little edge rubbed and very slightly grubby to rear panel.

Foxing to endpapers and textblock. Small brown spot affects a few pages (6-11). Dustwrapper is foxed to flaps and on verso and is just a little worn at corners.

The drought had lasted for many weeks and there was practically no water left in the wells of the village of Bourne Bridge. Hiram, Sykes, Michael and Ernest went down the canal each day to the town for water. One day Hiram found an ancient book which told how a wheel with a bell on it was rolled down the hill to find water. So he sets out to find water.... Cream boards, brown title to spine. B/w illustrations to text. 175 pages. Spine bumped and slightly damp stained. A few small spots to cover edges. Endpapers lightly browned. Textblock slightly foxed and a bit dusty to top edge. Dustwrapper is worn at spine and corners with small tears.
