Spine lightly faded and mottled, shelf wear to tail. Text block and endpapers browned. Small name in ink to front endpaper, gift inscription in ink to verso of front endpaper. A few scattered foxspots present. Dustwrapper design is by Philip Gough. Dustwrapper is browned, edge-worn and a little grubby.

Two volumes. Very large format. 14.5 x 11". Dark green cloth, gilt titles to spine and front cover. Bevelled edges. Elaborate red and gold vignette to front covers. All edges gilt. 12 superb colour plates. Numerous b/w text illustrations. Tintern Abbey is the colour frontis and first subject of volume I. Undated. Spines worn to top & tail with board beneath cloth exposed. Corners are rubbed. A few marks to boards. Joints starting to crack. Vertical crease to front endpaper of volume I. Plate opposite page 48 (The Cistercian Abbey of Melrose) and page 124 (The Premonstratensian Abbey of Dryburgh) are missing. Some hinges are pulled but binding tight. Plates are lovely and bright with some minor marks to margins. Scattered foxing throughout both volumes.
