SIGNED by the author on an autograph slip which has been stuck to the front free-endpaper and dedicated to Ria. Spine and corners slightly bumped and rubbed. Autograph slip is foxed but contents are fine. Dustwrapper is edge creased and torn with some slight loss and tape repairs on verso.

Yellow cloth, black title to spine and illustration to front cover. Pictorial endpapers. Colour frontis. B/w text illustrations throughout. 230 pages. The first in the series to be illustrated by James Arnold. Spine slightly faded with darker patch at base. Small foxspots to endpapers, prelims and edge of textblock. A few foxspots to contents but generally near fine. Scarce original dustwrapper is in two halves, browned, and torn at edges with loss to top 1/3 of spine and to lower rear corner. Reduced from £120.

A couple of tiny dents to cover edges. Tiny booksellers sticker to front pastedown. Front joint just starting to crack. Some foxing to page margins. Very light damp stain to edges of title-page and preface. Pages 13-16 have a light brown stain to lower corners. Overall a very nice copy of this antiquarian children's book.
