Rear board has small black ink stain to lower edge. Endpapers browned. Large inscription in ink to front endpaper.

First section splitting from binding to top 2". Endpapers browned. Some pencil annotation relevant to text present and also newspaper cuttings. A few scattered foxspots. Closed tear to one map.

Dustwrapper is slightly edge worn and foxed.

Red cloth, gilt title to spine. 312pp includes index. Covers are unevenly faded with splash marks. Bumping to corners. Colour frontis is creased. Foxing to endpapers, outer page edges and to page margins. Plate opposite page 226 also has large corner crease. Plate opposite page 272 has stained margin - where it appears to have got damp and the colour front to cover has run.
